Chartiers Nature Conservancy to Acquire Flood Plain Acreage
2005-10-31
The Chartiers Nature Conservancy has recently completed negotiations with the Duquesne Light Company for the acquisition of a large riparian flood plain along the Chartiers Creek in the City of Pittsburgh and Borough of McKees Rocks. The property consists of over 30 acres and lies near Sheridan Park. The Conservancy is presently endeavoring to raise the purchase price under an option contract with Duquesne Light.
Acquisition of such acreage will be a significant contribution to the Conservancy's Chartiers Creek Trail endeavor. The size of the property - and its proximity to the Chartiers Creek - also make this eventual acquisition particularly valuable to incorporate into the Conservancy's acid mine drainage reduction program.
