Trail Feasability Study

Over the past several years, efforts (such as CNC's AMD project) to remediate the effects of the Chartiers Creek's industrial heritage have increased the potential for and interest in the Chartiers Creek Valley's recreational opportunities. Such opportunities include paddling, fishing, wildlife observation, and hiking.

The Trail Feasibility Study describes the existing and potential regional trail system, including the trails already secured by the CNC. The proposed trail would eventually link the Chartiers Creek Valley with Weirton, West Virginia. The study also describes the communities through which the trails run, emphasizing the potential for growth of the communities' recreational activities. The purpose of the study is to promote government and community interest and support at the grassroots level to assist in efforts to secure funding to make the trail and greenway project a reality. Funding for the study was provided by Community Conservation Partnership Program administered by Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources (DCNR) Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, The Pittsburgh Foundation, and the Canaan Valley Institute. The consultants for the project were Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Simone, Jaffe, Collins, Inc. of Berwyn, Pennsylvania.
